About

MondoSamu.com has been around long enough now, that I have decided to make it a little easier to get your bearings if you're new here.  So hopefully this page will help you understand, a little easier, why this blog exists and bring you up to speed a little faster.

On July 3rd, 2010, I discovered I had hit 349 pounds.  I vowed I would never hit 350.  That's when I discovered the book "Savor" by Thich Nhat Hanh and Dr. Lilian Cheung.  I didn't know it then, but my life would be transformed using the tools given to me by Thay and the Doc.  Read more about it here.

I read the book, and came up with a Mindful weight loss plan that worked for me.  See the basic plan I came up with here.

Around late October, I reached a major milestone in my weight loss plan.  I lost 50 pounds!  You can read about that here.

I had a major turning point in my journey when I started learning more about Buddhism.  I didn't know it then, but this post was the beginning of the shift from being focused on losing weight using mindfulness, to being mindful and losing weight.  A very significant difference.

Another significant event for me, on this journey, was when I visited my first "Sangha" group and experienced some things that solidified my thoughts on many things regarding Buddhism.

Around the time I hit the 75 pound mark on my 100 pound weight loss goal, I was greatly honored to be a guest blogger on www.SavorTheBook.com blog.  You can check that post out on their site.

Since then, my attention has shifted heavily from losing weight to focusing more on the Buddhist aspects of this journey, such as mindfulness.  I have reduced how often I have posted, but mostly just because I've been absorbed in learning.

Please come on in, read a while, and join in the conversation!

Welcome!
